Brain-Computer Interface

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) constitute a rapidly developing field that enables control of an external output device through interpretation of neural activity. BCIs measure brain activity, extract features from that activity, and convert those features into outputs that replace, restore, enhance, supplement, or improve human functions.

At present, BCIs typically consist of 3 essential components: a sensor, a decoder, and an effector. The sensor records neural activity from the brain. The decoder processes the raw signal input by extracting predictive features and classifying the intended movement based on signal features. The effector is an external device, typically a robotic limb or a screen cursor, that can receive instructions from the decoder to execute a command.

Enlight Medical is developing invasive and non-invasive BCIs to help replace, restore, or improve human functions.
